Gophers Getting Your Crops? 9 Natural Hacks To Get Rid Of Them

It shouldn’t have to be so hard to get rid of gophers! I think I speak for everyone when I say no more holes in your lawn this season. Don’t lose any more plants; I think it’s officially the time to kill gophers! You can now use these natural hacks to get rid of gophers.

9 Natural Hacks To Get Rid Of Gophers

1. Use some scents

The smell of scents will disgust the gophers. One of the most popular amongst them is the fish scent. So, whenever you have some fish leftover, place it inside or near the tunnel the gophers made in your lawn. They won’t come back, that’s for sure.

2. Use a strong repellent such as castor oil

Castor oil is a very popular remedy to repel gophers. In order to prepare this repellent, you need to blend 1/4 cup of unrefined castor oil and 2 tablespoons of a dishwashing liquid. Then you need to dilute this with 1 gallon of water and spray on the affected areas.

3. Coffee grounds

If you have some coffee, then this remedy will work just fine. Thus, by sprinkling some ground coffee in the gopher areas you will drive them away. Also, cover the holes with soil and spread some more grounds around the garden area.

4. More water means no gophers

This method will definitely repel gophers because you’re going to flood the tunnels. Pour 5-gallon buckets of water in gopher tunnel or use a hose. It will not kill the pests instead it will force them to leave their burrows.

5. Traps

Place gopher traps in the tunnels or passageways of an active gopher mound. Excavate into the heap or mound, and put the trap diagonally into the tunnel. Wrap up the area with the help of a black plastic sheet or burlap in such a way that no light reaches into the hole. As soon as you trap them, leave them in a distant location from where they can’t come back.

6. Use jalapeno peppers

Another effective remedy to repel gophers is by putting jalapeno peppers within 4 inches of the location where they are invading.

7. Take advantage of natural predators

A nesting barn owl pair would be the easiest way to control gophers.

8. Prepare a wormwood tea

This tea is very useful in preventing gopher infestation. All you need is a half pound of Artemesia leaves and 6 pints of water. After boiling, simmer the solution for a half hour and then strain the solution. You can also add 1 quart of fresh water. So, spray this liquid all over the place and check the results for yourself. No more gophers around!

9. Garlic and red chili powder

This strong smelling powder is the simplest way to get rid of gophers. Make this garlic fire spray using 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 2-3 garlic bulbs, 12 hot chili peppers, 3 squirts liquid detergent and 7 cups water. Blend all the ingredients, strain through a muslin cloth and fill it with a spray bottle. Spraying this mixture in garden and lawns will repel gophers.
